Tressa Jenaeé Thomas (born July 31. 1978) usually credited as simply Tressa Thomas, is an American actress and singer, who began her professional career as an entertainer at the age of 6.

Personal life

Tressa is a native of North Chicago, IL. She is the daughter of Porter L. Thomas (1949-1987) and Elaine R. Thomas (1950-2004). She has an older sibling, Christopher H. Thomas, who resides in Los Angeles, CA. Tressa is single and has no children.

Career

Before her film debut in The Five Heartbeats, Tressa Thomas was a seasoned stage performer, having completed over 100 live stage performances before reaching the age of 10. She appeared in numerous commercials for McDonald's, Coke II and Kemper Insurance before hitting the big screen. Her first tour of Europe as the youngest spokes model for ADIDAS Sportswear happened when she was just 10 years of age, and she shot her first music video in the streets of Sofia, Bulgaria while on tour with the company.

Her early television roles included "Angel Street" (CBS), starring Robin Givens in 1992, "Townsend Television" (FOX) in 1993, "Love Hurts" (ABC After School Special) in 1993 and "Little Richard" (NBC) in 2000.

Tressa received critical acclaim for her portrayal of "Duck's Little Sister" in the film, The Five Heartbeats, directed by Robert Townsend. In the film, Tressa sings an entire song with her brother, as they both clean and do chores in the family's bedroom. The Five Heartbeats was Tressa's film debut, and she continues to be internationally known for the role all around the world. She also performed the song "We Haven't Finished Yet, on the Five Heartbeats soundtrack, and was featured alongside Patti LaBelle and Billy Valentine.

Most recently, Tressa has been featured on The Mo'nique Show's Five Heartbeats reunion episode, and is currently the CEO & Artistic Director of a 501(c)(3) performing arts company for women in Chicago, IL called the "ThYck Troupe Organization".

In 2013, Tressa will release her debut album, "Hybrid Soul: The Organic Sessions", executive produced by Shelley Hoselton and produced by the Chicago-based band, Soul People. The album showcases a fusion of Neo-Soul, R&B, Jazz & Alternative genres. It is set for release in February, 2013.
