The Chalking refers to an incident that took place in Maplewood, New Jersey and South Orange, New Jersey during the day of January 3rd, in which several sidewalks around the two towns were scribbled with chalk messages at the behest of the group Million Moms For Gun Control, an organization that formed in the wake of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary.
The messages were very benign and were written in sidewalk chalk, which assured that they would not be permanent, but this did not prevent one annoyed Maplewood citizen from starting a thread on Maplewood Online seeking information on the group (even though the website was clearly embedded within the chalk message) and asking for ideas to help remove the chalk immediately in freezing temperatures because rain was not forecasted in the near future.
The incident was also written about on The South Orange Patch. Several reader comments were left after this article.
