"Something to Dance For"[1] is the second single from the soundtrack Shake It Up: Live 2 Dance. It was performed by Zendaya and written by Jeannie Lurie, Aris Archontis and Chen Neeman. The song was released on March 6, 2012. It premiered as the 2nd single of the soundtrack on Radio Disney's Planet Premiere on February 24, 2012, and on iTunes on March 6th.

Background and composition

The song was the second single from the soundtrack Shake It Up: Live 2 Dance and was used in a special episode of Shake It Up which was the first 2012 episode from Shake It Up. The song also kind of has a little pitch from Selena Gomez & the Scene's single, "Who Says." It has a nice touch of Gomez's song and also seems to have a nice dancing pitch like a club vibe or disco. Musically, the electro sound is very similar to Enrique Iglesias's single, "I Like It".

Music video

The video was released on March 9, 2012 during a Jessie episode. It was a mash-up video with TTYLXOX which the girls start off to request for each others song and then Zendaya starts to sing and dance with her group of people, then "TTYLXOX" plays with Bella dancing and singing with her group, and then finally the songs mashes up with each other. It was also released on YouTube and VEVO two hours after the original world premiere. "TTYLXOX" and "Something to Dance For" went to the top 10 after their mash-up music video.

Critical reception

The Teen Connection, UOL portal, said the song was "danceable and contagious" and said the sweet voice of Zendaya as the main attraction, ending with a comparison to the first single from the singer, saying that "music is definitely better than "Swag It Out." Bop and Tiger Beat pointed out that the introductory phrase of the music video, "You have to listen to the song Zendaya - it's incredible," saying that the track is really spectacular. The site also stated that the final product of the production of "Something to Dance for" is amazing and the beats are "amazing and captivating"[2].
