Social Media Experiment is an experimental combination of art, online and humanoids. The experiment was initially created for Shangri-La at Glastonbury Festival 2010 (the festivals 40th anniversary) and was conducted again at the 2011 festival.
The first experiment was commissioned by the BBC for the BBC Poetry Season (http://www.bbc.co.uk/poetryseason) which featured GlastoPoem. The most recent Social Media Experiment was sponsored by London Pleasure Gardens 2012, a new music and arts festival based in East London, created by Shangri-La and Mutate Britain.
The Glastonbury 2010 experiment took place in the Igloo Dome, a 360° cinemax auditoria (http://www.igloovision.com/) on Friday the 25th June between 1pm & Midnight. The event featured a variety of live music, DJ sets, spoken word, comedy and art with various online and social media platforms. Acts involved included Urban Nerds, the music and spoken word collective One Taste, whom feature artists such as MC Xander, Little Dragon and Newton Faulkner amongst others. Other events that featured in the original experiment included a stand-up comedy act using Chatroulette Live and a Twitterbury Meetup for Twitter users.
The experiment has been devised and coordinated by James Norris of Social Media Strategist (http://www.socialmediastrategist.co.uk).
