Silver Lake Village is a power center located in Fenton, Michigan, which has been built in stages since 1997. It is built around a street, Silver Parkway, accessible from Owen and Silver Lake roads. US Highway 23 forms part of the shopping center's western boundary. The current anchor tenants at Silver Lake Village are: Kmart, VG's (part of the Spartan Stores chain), Home Depot, Walmart, Dollar Tree, Joseph Used Cars, Dunham's Sports, and Michael's. The other anchor tenant, last a Farmer Jack, has been vacant since it closed in 2009.[1] Silver Lake Village is also home to several banks, including two branches of The State Bank, which is headquartered in Fenton.[2]

History and buildings

When Silver Lake Village was being developed, VG's had been located on Owen Road, and Kmart was located at a strip mall on North Leroy Street where a second VG's location now stands. Joseph was then a Pontiac dealership in Holly, Michigan. Part of Silver Parkway was then Jennings Road. Closer to Owen Road, a drive-in theater once stood on this site. This became the site for Silver Lake Village's first building, a white cinderblock building which became home to both VG's and Kmart upon its completion in 1997. The third tenant in the building is Glik's clothing store. The completion of this building also linked Lake Effect Car Wash and a Burger King on Owen Road to the shopping center.

The second building to be completed, Silver Pointe, was a strip mall modeled after the original building, and today features in addition to Dunham Sports, smaller specialty stores including a RadioShack and Hollywood Video. Joseph Pontiac moved into a new building at Silver Lake Village at the turn of the 21st century. At the Silver Lake Road end of the mall, Fenton Village Marketplace, a red-brick building, was completed in 2001 and its original tenants, included, besides Farmer Jack and Michael's, Blockbuster Video. Only Farmer Jack ceased to exist. Walmart's Fenton store, a brown-and-red block building, was completed in 2003 and expanded in 2011. Also in 2003, the Home Depot was completed.

In recent years, the State Bank has built a second Silver Lake Village branch, a standalone gray brick building. It has since been joined by three other banks: Flagstar and Talmer banks, both red brick buildings, and Comerica, which sits in Walmart's parking lot. A three-story Holiday Inn Express has also been built, as have two smaller strip malls. One includes a Subway, Troy Cleaners and Batteries Plus, while the Dollar Tree plaza, built in 2010, also includes a Quiznos restaurant and a Great Clips. A child care building and the Michigan Eye Institute have also been built. In 2012, VG's added a gas station. Applebee's has built a restaurant at the VG's/Kmart parking lot and a Bob Evans Restaurant sits in the Walmart parking lot. There are two apartment complexes adjacent to Silver Lake Village, and access to Jennings Road and Silver Lake Park, a public park, is through Silver Lake Village.[3]
