The Sau-turaga clan is the second highest of the Fijian social hierarchy system. The name itself "sau turaga" means supporter of the chief. Their traditional role is paramountly the installing of a new chief, the assistance of chiefly duties and even to hold the chiefly position in the time of process in the making of a new chief. The two clans are very closely related and can be considered as even one family : usually the turaga clan being the elder in seniority.
