Raphy Elgrissy was born in Casablanca Morocco in 1945. He started his Martial Arts training in Boxing at a local club, a year later large anticlimactic attacks started and the balance that was kept for years has been broken, where attacks to the Jewish community's begun threatening their existence. Mr Elgrissy was spotted at the boxing club as a tough and talented young guy and was recruited by a The Jewish agency(the early wing of the isreaeli "Mossed")to organize and prep large groups and families that were about to be smuggled through the dangerous borders of morocco. For almost 8 months he was risking his life with forged identity's and different passports passing the border again and again until they completed the hectic migration. Eventually he joined his family in Israel.
Until Mr elgrissy went to serve in the israeli army the I.D.F he kept his Boxing training in a local club in Natanya Israel, in 1964 he was first introduced to IMI Lichtenfeld(founder of Krav Maga) in an Army training facility Called Wingate IMI then was the Chief instructor for physical fitness and hand to hand combat- HAGANH ATZMIT (self defense) in the I.D.F . IMI and Raphy clicked and developed a strong relationship outside the I.D.F, Raphy started training with IMI outside the borders of the Army structured training program, and became one of the leading instructors in his small upcoming training center. IMI would take his students every once in a while to a different training facility to learn a new style, Knife instructors, grappling, ground,Judo, Aikido and more.. IMI believed that the more styles you learn your, Krav Maga will be more effective. One of the most prominent experience Mr elgrissy has taken with him was The AIKIDO, a style that Raphy is a great fond of. he trained with a Scottish instructor for more then 8 months and received his 3rd black belt (Judo, Krav Maga, Aikido) Raphy's first Dojo was established in 1967 in Natanya Israel, Raphy taught Jodo, Krav Maga and incorporated his own style of training that established his name along the years. At that point he already received his Jodo Instructor Degree, Gym operator certificate, Krav Maga Instructor Degree and Karv Maga Trainer certificate. In 1977 he privately trained an American business man named Danny Abrahami. Danny fell in love in the form of training he received even tough the language beerier was an issue, the international language of Martial arts spoke for itself. A strong friendship was established. After almost a year of training Mr Abrahami wanted to invest into Mr Elgrissy's Business/Dojo, Raphy that didn't really understand what he wanted to do with his Dojo decided to bring his teacher to help and advice.
Mr IMI Lichtenfeld took the meeting with Mr Abrahami after several hours they agreed on an investment opportunity Mr Abrahami will be the financial entity behind the establishment of the Krav Maga In 1978 the first Krav Maga Association was established. The original symbol of the Krav Maga that is known worldwide was created by Raphy Elgrissy (The K and M attached in the circle Hebrew letters) In 1979 A group of six instructors were chosen to represent the Krav Maga in a US demonstration Tour for the Jewish Community Center in America 12 cities in 45 days. Raphy was amongst those six. Since then Raphy was training special forces groups in the Israeli defense forces(I.D.F) for almost 15 years and was one of the leading instructors in every respectful unit in the Police, Navy and Army. As a civilian Raphy kept a solid amount of trainees along the years and Certified a few of the Leading instructors in the Krav Maga industry.
Amongst his students Are: Gabby Noach(white through brown belt) - Eli Lipstain(white through brown belt)- Haim Gidon (Brown Belt)- Michael Abikasis(white through brown belt)- Richard Doeyev - (white through brown belt)- Alain Cohen - (Black belt 5Dan)- Phillipe Cohen - (Black belt 5Dan)- itzik Bitton-(white through brown belt) and many more..
Along the years Raphy was granted the highest pass to all Military and police facilities to train and instruct the best of the best in the country. in 1988 Raphy was invited to Paris to visit his student Richard duiev where he was featured in the center fold of the acclaimed Black belt magazine.
Before his pasting IMI honored Mr Elgissy with the last degree of 5 DAN.After IMI's passing away in 1998 Raphy kept away from the politics that raised from losing the founder, master, teacher and a close friend. in 2008 He joined his long time friend Avi Avisidon and became a member of K.A.M.I (The Israeli Krav Magen Association)
Mr Elgrissy is currently holding one of the highest ranks in the Industry a Master Degree (red and white belt) (6dan)
and continues training around the world.
