Radu Sandu Victor Căpîlnăşiu (born March 25, 1961) is a politician from Romania. He has served as the mayor of the Municipality of Zalău) since 2004.[1][2] The city of Zalău is the seat of Sălaj County (there are 41 county capitals in Romania).

In the 1980s, Radu Căpîlnăşiu played for Universitatea Cluj handball team.[3]

Căpîlnăşiu joined the Democratic Party in 1997. After 2000 local election he served as a deputy mayor (2000-2004) and in 2004 he was elected as the mayor for the first time. In 2008, Căpîlnăşiu was expelled from the Democratic Party and became a member of the National Liberal Party (Romania). The Mayor Radu Căpîlnăşiu was elected for the first time in 2004 as member of the Democratic Party and re-elected in 2008 and 2012 as a member of the National Liberal Party. He is the president of the Sălaj branch of the National Liberal Party and co-president of the Sălaj branch of the Social Liberal Union.


  • In 2007, Radu Căpîlnăşiu was awarded the "Man of the Year 2007" with Mona Muscă.[4]
