Pure Barre is a total body workout fusing elements of ballet, pilates, and weights in a 55-minute intense session. The workout is said to "lift your seat, tone your thighs, and burn fat". The Pure Barre technique specifically excludes bouncing and jumping. The Pure Barre workout focuses on the following areas of the body : abs, thighs, seat and upper arms. The Pure Barre technique centers around ballet, Pilates and weights.[1] The technique was adapted from the Lotte Berk method by choreographer Carrie Rezabeck in 2006.[2]

Pure Barre Founder

The founder and sole owner of Pure Barre is Carrie Rezabek. She received her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University then went onto law school at Wayne State University.[3] She opened her first studio in Birmingham, Michigan. She is also the ambassador for Luluemon for the San Diego area.[4]

The Experience

Pure Barre has four steps to working out: warm up, thigh work, seat work and ab work. It has been said to be the hybrid of ballet, Pilates and standard aerobics-class weight training.[5] It starts with light weights, moves to the ballet bar for a series of movements designed to tone the abdominal and derrière muscles,[6] then concludes with abdominal work and core strength exercises.

Other Experiences

Pure Barre is a mix of aerobics, Pilates and weight training. Aerobics is a system of physical conditioning designed to enhance circulatory and respiratory efficiency that involves vigorous sustained exercise, such as jogging, swimming, or cycling.[7] Pilates improves mental and physical well-being, andincreases flexibility, and strengthens muscles.[8] Weight training improves and maintains overall fitness, strength, or endurance.[9] Ballet is a classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement and by elaborate formal gestures, steps, and poses.[10] The fusion of all these exercises creates a challenging workout.
