OnisLiving is a technology company founded by British entrepreneur Fraser Patterson that guarantees the outcome of home remodeling and small construction projects for all parties involved.

History

The company can be traced back to the United Kingdom where in 2004 OnisLife was incorporated to deliver a private housing and lifestyle model to senior citizens throughout the UK. In 2005 the company had evolved and began trading in London as a one stop shop home refurbishment company. In 2009 Patterson co-founded OnisVida with investors in Mexico. Through an alliance[1] with Infonavit, Latin America's largest mortgage lender, the company has built an Information Technology Enabled Service that guarantees home remodeling projects are completed to within budget and to quality and aligns and secures the interests of homeowners, home remodeling contractors, building suppliers and financial institutions involved in the process of remodeling a home. The company was awarded a contract with Infonavit and later won HSBC as a client. Since its launch it has proved its model by successfully completing its first 100 projects to quality and to budget with a network of some 30 contractors [2] and raised venture capital. In 2012 Patterson launched OnisLiving in the USA and is currently in Open Beta.

Association with IKEA

In November 2006 the company was awarded the Interbuild 2006 Construction Marketing Award for best campaign under £25,000 for it’s NOT FOR SALE estate agent sign campaign which began the company’s association with IKEA [3] who launched a £12m UK wide advertising campaign in September 2007 titled 'Home is the Most Important Place in the World' using estate agent signs with the term 'Not For Sale' written on them as part of the wider campaign. After the campaign appeared in the Metro newspaper London the business news website www.mad.co.uk remarked that the IKEA campaign had amazing similarities with the marketing activity of Onis[4]. After some negotiations Onis received free advertising from IKEA for one year via their campaign website (www.notgoinganywhere.co.uk) [5]. Onis is possibly the first company ever to be advertised by IKEA in this fashion.

Use of technology

The OnisLiving website eliminates the need for paperwork which traditionally makes the process of administering home remodeling projects time consuming. It is developed in PHP with a MySql database using a standard Apache web server running on Linux [6]
