Funded by Helse Sør-Øst RHF is a free, web based, comprehensive resource for cancer diagnostics, treatment and supportive care. The aim is to supply health care providers worldwide with updated and detailed information on cancer care sourced directly from acclaimed medical specialists. Oncolex contains extensive material for each cancer type including illustrations, animations, photos and video footage. was launched at the annual GAP Conference[1] in Oslo on May 15, 2012. It is a resource in continual progress, as it keeps track of novel procedures and cutting edge technology transforming the field of cancer diagnostics and treatment.


Oncolex contains theoretical and practical information on the various forms of cancer, as well as descriptions of procedures within diagnostics, prognostics, surgery, drugs, radiation and adjuvant therapy. Details are included such as surgical instruments used and histological analyses.


Not all hospitals and medical centers have cancer specialists on site. Oncolex can act as a remote tutorial for health care providers worldwide when treating and informing their cancer patients. The accessibility of Oncolex will aid in increasing the quality of patient treatment which will ultimately increase cancer survival rates.


More than 100 specialists from the Norwegian Radium Hospital, Oslo University Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston have contributed to the content of Oncolex.
