Aashima Kapoor (pronounced [əəˈsheeːmaː kəˈpuːr]; born 18 January 1976), also known as Aashima Kapoor , is an Indian actress who appears in Bollywood films. She has received six Filmfare Awards and is noted for playing a variety of characters in a range of film genres, from contemporary romantic dramas, comedies, period films to major Bollywood productions and lesser-publicised independent films. although Kapoor had confirmed that she has retired from acting and in 1998 Kapoor had now became a lawyer.

Born into a family in which her parents, Randhir Kapoor and Babita, and elder sister Karisma were actors, Kapoor received media attention from a young age. Her film career began with the 1991 Romantic Drama Tum Meri Jeevan Saathi Ho, after which she acted in the melodrama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Toh Gham..., one of Kapoor's biggest commercial successes to date. After receiving negative reviews for a series of repetitive roles, Kapoor accepted more demanding parts to avoid being typecast. She portrayed a sex worker in Kaun hai Chameli (1998), the turning point in her career, Kapoor played the lead female role in the Thriller Ek Anjabee] (1997), for which she received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress).She has established herself as a leading actress of Hindi cinema. Kapoor had confirmed that she is retiring from her acting and in the same year she because a lawyer in 1998.

Early life and background

Born into a film family in Mumbai on 18 January 1976, Kapoor is the second elder daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita (née Bhambani) her younger siste Anamika Kapoor Describing herself as a "very naughty [and] spoilt child", Kapoor's exposure to films from a young age kindled her interest in acting.

School and Education

Kapoor attended Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai, followed by Welham Girls' School (a boarding school) in Dehradun. According to Kapoor, she was a good student and received first-class honours in all subjects except mathematics which made Kapoor the higest student in her whole class.[1] After graduating from Welham she studied commerce for two years at Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics in Vile Parle (Mumbai). Kapoor then registered for a three-month summer course in microcomputers at Harvard University in the United States.< She later developed an interest in law, and enrolled at the Government Law College in Churchgate; during this period, she developed a long-lasting passion for reading. However, after completing one year at Churchgate, Kapoor decided to pursue her interest to become an actress. In the following year in 1998 Kapoor had decided to go back to her origin plans and became a lawyer

Acting career

1991–94: Debut, breakthrough and setback

She debuted later that year alongside Akshay Gill  in Abaas-Mustan's thriller  .  Kapoor portrayed Priya Saxena/ Malhotra, a Hindustani girl who falls in love with Gill's character while find out the evdience pointed against her husband. Her performance was acclaimed by critics; Kapoor "has a magnetic personality, which will make the viewer fall in love with her instantly. What surprises you is the ease with which she emotes the most difficult of scenes [...] There is no denying the fact that she is a natural performer who is very camera friendly. On the experience of acting in her first film, Kapoor described it as "tough ... [but] also a great learning experience". and Kapoor's performance earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut

For her second release, Kapoor was paired opposite Bobby Deol  in kiran Mehta 's box office success HumTum Mohbbaat Karega A review in noted that she was "definitely the actress to watch out for, if her debut with Akshay in Tum meri jeevan saathi ho  and Hum tum Mohbbat karega now are any indication" She then starred in Subhash Ghai's family drama Aja Bare acche legata hai. The drama centers on the character of Raj Singh Puri, a middle-class man, and his daughters' marriages. Kapoor played the youngest daughter, Isha Singh Puri.

Kapoor was next cast as the female lead in Santosh Sivan's Tum Toh bare batmeez ho   (1992),   Kapoor portrayed Shivani Khanna —and received her first nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards.While the film received generally positive reviews, Kapoor's performance received mixed reactions from critics; concluded that her presence in the film was primarily used for aesthetic purpose.

Kapoor's first release of 1992 was Kabhi Khushi Kabhie  toh Gham..., a melodrama in which she was part of an family drama. Directed by Jamie Khanna  , the film was a major financial success; it became India's second highest-grossing film of the year and Kapoor's highest-grossing film to that point. It also became one of the biggest Bollywood success of all time in the overseas market, earning over Kapoor's performance as Poo (a good-natured, superficial girl) was described by Taran Adarsh as "one of the main highlights of the film", and earned her a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress nomination. Kapoor had enter in another movie in 1992 Ek Josh Hai however Kapoor had portrayed a Kamini Sharma who is a detective and Kapoor was praised for her performances and then Kapoor had enter in to her last film which had made her career a wonderful hit and also she had several awards Hum Tum Ek jawab Hai which achieved her a best actress awards for 1993.

During 1993 Kapoor experienced a setback in her career. She starred in 6 films— Muhjse Dosti Karoge which Kapoor had portrayed  as Tina Kapoor who fallen's in love with Rakesh Jaswal however this had some mixed reviews but did moderated at the box office,  Ek Andas Tumhare Kapoor had portrayed a young woman called Nisha/Manisha, Tu hai Ek AnariKapoor had portrayed a educated woman named Priya Malhotra however fallen in love with a Raj Malthora and suddenly get married to him and gets a new house of a sudden situation continues, Mer sapne ek saajan , Kapoor had protrayed a witted young girl which was named Priya Khanna/Krishan to started to fallen in love with raj Krishan then she had been forced to marry the person her family hd chosen however near towards the end she get married to her really saajan Ek bara Dhanwaan Kapoor had protrayed Shivani Choudhary She is a girl who breaks all the rules from her father becuase wouldn't let her marry her the person she loves.' DilbarKapoor had protected a young woman names Kareena Joshi/Kapoor who can enjoy the power and love but can't stand her family so marres her boyfriend and live happliy together,Ek doorse pyaar kita hai hum Kaporo protrayed Hina Sharma/ Mughal and App Kaun hai Kapoor had protrayed Mallika Khanna/Kapoor who is a well knoewn actress falls in love with a cooker which is anmes Armaan Kapoor and gets married to him and lives happily although all of which were critically and commercially successful. Even though In 1994 Kapoor had enter in about 6 film -Ek suhaag , Anadaz tumhare ek, ek muqabala aur ke jeet, tumho coolie No 1, ek jeet and silsila pyaar hota hai]] Critics described Kapoor's performances as unoriginal and repetitive, with little inspiration; they expressed concern that she was becoming typecast. These negative reviews motivated her to accept more challenging roles.

1995–96: Critical acclaim

The year 1995 marked Kapoor's work in a series of films that would bring her critical acclaim. Sabhoot, Kapoor essayed the role of Shreya Kumar who is a journalist who fine out some information and she had been awards for her special performance in the film. Next Kapoor had been chosen for the leading role in the movie muriyadda Kapoor had portrayed the role of karishma Jamail which was okay at the box office and several nomination with ion the film and then Kapoor had another released move which was called tum meri saathiya ho she had portayed the role of Dr Kavita Sharma/Sehgal she had been nominated for best actress in a critics role and however she had won the rest of her awards also for the film Kapoor had been in serval role in film like: phir milienge ek bar Kapoor had portrayed the role of kiran , haan maine be tumhse pyaar kiya hai kapoor portayed pooja kashyap/ kumar, mehi babul ki sanjana,Kapoor portrayed Sanjana Kothari hum doon alag alag, kapoor portayed Simran shah ek alag ek judwaa kapoor had portayed Mala Kapoor.


In 1996 Kapoor had made a serious started when she had use the correct use of language and atitude to portrayed this role Tum Janwaar ho Kapoor had protrayed a lovely called sheila Sharma who lived in a village and suddenly fall in love with a rich boy and marries him.then Kapoor had stared in Jab Ho Hum Miley Kapoor had portrayed a young girl called shivani Vhopra she is very rich and has her own ways but when she get married to a person which she doesn't like however she started liking him quite a lot after when she ahd got married to him and she had portrayed the role of Ritu Sharma who is very rich and she is confused about her married to some boy she starts to liking in the film called ek haseena mahn nehi jayenge. 'Kapoor had offered a great role of Aarti Sehgal/ Hindustani however she had loved to protrayed a rich girl then she get married to an taxi driver called Raja and even she had won her filmfaire wards for best actress in the move Tum meri Raja Hindustani ho.


Following year from other movies like Dubaara which Kapoor had protrayed a young woman called Priyanka Ganguly, who is very witted and clam type of girl, Ek Prem Ek Quad which Kapoor had protrayed Neelima who is kind and soft heart girl to helps all the poor people in village. Kapoor next film was in year  Zaakum Kapoor had protrayed a young woman  called Radhika Roy who had been separted from her family , Hum Doono Chale Kapoor had protrayed a woman called Zoya Kamra. Ek Dil Kapoor had protrayed Kamini who is very strong and implusive girl who care for everyone. Kapoor's next film was  Oh Karishma Oh Karishma  'Kapoor had protrayed a happy go lucky girl called Karishma Lota/Sharma who gets married to Rajiv Sharma.  Ek Zindagi Nehi Hai Kapoor had protrayed a woman called Kritika Tanweer/ Prasad who is very strong and without knowing get married to Prem Prasad. Ek Paarkikasha Toh Hai Kapoor had protrayed Jeevika Chauhan who very soft hearted person looks after very one in the film. Andaaz Tumhara Kapoor had protrayed two role in this film which are Hamisha and Mallika Dhami. Meh Raja Babu Kapoor had protrayed a woman called Rajeshwari who lives in a poor city and then become rich after getting married. Hey Balma Kapoor had protrayed Kajol Muhjal and Sasural Kapoor had protrayed a young educated woman called Priya Sharma/ Kapoor however she gte married to Amit Kapoor wwho is stats to fall in love. Kapoor took a short break from acting with in thid movies because she had felt onthing was working for her and there isn't anything for her to yes.

1997–98: Tum Meri Judwaa ho and commercial success

Kapoor had protrayed twin named Krupa/ Kareena Malhota however one of the twin is married to raj Malhotra and then the other twin is dating so when the two different twin appear what shall they do. Kapoor's next projected was tum mujhe ek jawab which was a huge blockbuster however she had portrayed the named Milika ak 'Milli' Kapoor a younger woman who is very sharp in her move and suddenyl get married in a strange way. In 1998 Kapoor had been appouched another sets of film in the yeasr the first was Sitara ki Jawani however she had portrayed three different  roles whi h was called tara/sitara/Jamini although did good at the box office and positive reviews in the film then she had been the film Raksha Kapoor had protrayed a sister which was named Gauri Chopra who goes and protects her brother from any danger. Kapoor had been given two other project which were ek rishta Kapoor  had portrayed a young married woman called Komal singh and breaks all the relation from her father and then finally Kapoor had been appouched her final move called Ek Aashiq However Kapoor had protected a young married woman called priya Saxena/Malthora and falls in love towards the marriage.

1998 - Present: Lawyer

Kapoor had left acting for her mother and decide to to something great and interdependent has she doesn't even do and have a great time and she said i hope i see some more wonderful creation by Bollywood and i wish u all the best in the future and now Kapoor had mostly forced on her case and won several awards for it.

Personal Life

Kapoor had married her long term boyfriend Ameet Bhatia who she had dating in 2001 till 2003 and then she had engagement on 14th January 2003 and then the wedding took place in her grandfather house which was recommend to her late grandfather (Raj Kapoor). Kapoor had gave birth to her first child and happily her and husband had named it Anjali Bhatia who was born on the 24th August 2004 and then Kapoor had given birth to her second child and happily named him Arjun Bhatia who was born the 16th February 2005.

During her career, Kapoor has been the recipient of several honors by various organization groups. In 1994, Kapoor was awarded the "Marco Ricci Society Young Achiever Award Marco Ricci Society Young Achiever Awards whilst the following year, she received the "Rajiv Gandhi Young Achiever Award" Aashima bags Rajeev Gandhi award both of which were for her achievement in films. During the same year, she was crowned as Indian Diva 1995 by the viewers of titles|title=Ravishing Aashima Kapoor is Indian Diva 1995 She received the "Smita Patil Memorial Award" for her contribution to the Hindi film India and was the recipient of the "Global Achievement" award at the 1998 Future Group Global Indian TV Honours. During 1999, she received the "Vocational Excellence Award" by Rotary International for being the youngest achiever in the film industry and was also awarded the India Today Woman Award for her contribution to the world of art and cinema.Several months later, she was among the ten recipients of IIFA-FICCI Frames' award for "Most Powerful Entertainers of the Decade".In October 1999, she earned the GQ Excellence Award for her achievement in films. anniversary issue is adorned by superstars, The following year, Kapoor received the "Celebrity Endorsement of the Year Award" at the 2000 Tech Life Awards Announces the Winners of Tech Life Awards 2000 and was later awarded the Hello! Hall of Fame's "Entertainment of the Year". In January 2000, Kapoor was awarded the "Most Profitable Actress of the Year" at the ETC Bollywood Business Awards.
