Kyacey Uscola (born July 10, 1981) is an American professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter. He was a cast member of SpikeTV's The Ultimate Fighter: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz. Uscola has fought for brands such as Bodog Fight, King of the Cage, and Palace Fighting Championships.[1] He trains out of Sacramento, California with Urijah Faber.

Uscola was born and raised in Idaho and started wrestling when he was a the age of seven. He played football and continued wrestling, becoming a state champion in high school while attending Minico High School in Rupert, Idaho. He enrolled in Southwestern Oregon Community College hoping to obtain a Business Management degree. He was on the wrestling team while at Southwestern Oregon and was an All American his sophomore year. He transferred to Eastern Oregon University for his junior year in college because his former school did not have a football team.

Mixed martial arts career

Kyacey originally signed as an MMA fighter for Bodog. He won three of four fights for them before the company shut down.[2]

Uscola defeated Pride Fighting Championship veteran Akira Shoji in 2006 for King of the Cage. The fight was set to be a title fight but the day of the fight, KOTC changed it to a non title fight.[3][4] Kyacey lost to Xavier Foupa-Pokam and then two fights later lost to Mike Guymon at a King of the Cage event.

Uscola stepped up on 10 days notice to fight Jorge Santiago at Affliction: Trilogy, but the event was canceled and the bout never took place. He next fought for Urijah Faber's California Kid Promotions, winning his fight against Richard Blake via submission. He then lost a fight by decision against future TUF castmate Kyle Noke. Uscola defeated Koffi Adzitso by TKO, and then after almost a year of inactivity defeated Doug Marshall by KO in the first round at Tachi Palace Fights: High Stakes.

The Ultimate Fighter

He attended the open tryouts for The Ultimate Fighter: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz and was selected as a contestant for the show.[5]

In the elimination round, to gain entry into the TUF house, Uscola defeated Brent Cooper via an early first round knockout. Tito Ortiz used his second pick to choose Uscola, making him the third overall pick.

Uscola fought Rich Attonito in the preliminary round of the competition. Uscola was disqualified after he hit Attonito with two illegal knees in the first round.

Uscola was chosen for one of the spots in the wild card selection, squaring off against teammate Kris McCray for the final spot in the quarter finals. Uscola fought McCray and was defeated via submission americana in the second round, eliminating Uscola from the competition for a second time.

After filming Season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter, Uscola was attacked by two American pit bull, after a brief confrontation, the dogs injured his shoulder, hand, and genitals. Uscola was able to start training again after a month of rehabilitation.[6]

Personal life

While filming The Ultimate Fighter 11, Uscola had his first child, a son named Charles Champ Uscola.[7]
