Josh Wood is a producer and promoter of concerts, theatrical events, gala dinners and political events.
On the forth and fifth anniversary of the Iraq War, Wood produced Speak Up!, a series of peace concerts featuring Michael Stipe, Scissor Sisters, Rufus Wainright, Moby, Laurie Anderson, Antony and the Johnsons, Norah Jones and Damien Rice.
In 2004, Josh Wood Productions created the Wedrock Concert for the Freedom to Marry, featuring performances by Lou Reed, Pink, Erasure, Sandra Bernhard and Alan Cumming.Wood has produced and promoted concerts including Margaret Cho’s “State of Emergency” show during the Republican Convention; Kylie Minogue’s New York debut at Hammerstein Ballroom; Ricky Gervais’ New York debut at Madison Square Garden; Arcade Fire’s first performance at Radio City Music Hall, and shows by Peaches and the Pet Shop Boys.
He teamed up with David Bowie in 2007 to create the Highline Festival, a citywide arts and musical showcase. The ten day "cultural mash up" featured concerts, films, art installations, and comedy to help build New York City's newest public park.
In 2009, Josh Wood Productions partnered with Lady Gaga to create the “Get on the Bus” campaign, raising funds for LGBT youth to attend the March on Washington.
He served as the 2010 music curator for “America: Now & Here,” a cross country exhibition of America’s greatest living artists, including Eric Fischl, Chuck Close, Jasper Johns, Jeff Koons, Julian Schnabel, Philip Glass, Lou Reed, Paul Simon, Sting and Edward Albee .
Josh Wood Productions, latest project, “The Inspiration Gala: A Celebration of Men’s Style,” is an international means fashion fundraiser benefiting amfAR. Created in 2010 for New York, Paris and Los Angeles – and branching out to São Paulo, Brazil in 2011 - participants include Kylie Minogue, Ricky Martin, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Sharon Stone, Courtney Love, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein Collection, Dolce & Gabbana, Rick Owens, Cyndi Lauper, and Kelly Rowland.
In the past, Josh Wood Productions has produced fundraising events for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Guggenheim Foundation, Vienna’s Life Ball, Empire State Pride Agenda, Friends of Hilary, Move On, Oxfam, Rock the Vote, and Obama for America (hosted by Bill Clinton.)
Awards and Recognition
Josh Wood was named one of the most influential people of 2007 by OUT magazine Out (magazine); Best National Promoter by Edge Publications in 2009, and “Promoter of the Year” by Village Voice’s The Village Voice Michael Musto. Josh is also a partner in the first gay boutique hotel in the U.S., Lords Miami Beach.
