Jemma Cotton was born to Alison Louisa Cotton and Peter James Cotton, computer programmers. Her parents are European immigrants to Canada. She has two sisters, Cara Cotton and Eva Cotton. She is first generation Canadian. Her father is the owner of Exyra Ltd. and creater of XTEND.
She has appeared in two plays, one of which made $73 in two nights, making it the highest grossing play in her middle school.How to Succeed in High School Without Really Trying is considered her breakout role, where she played Little Timmy Johnson, Joan, the Operator, and Jennifer.
Jemma has cited Karen Gillan as her inspiration.
