Jefferson Prep, Inc. is a for-profit corporation headquartered in New York City and was founded in 1998 by Richard Bahar [1] Jefferson Prep provides tutoring, test preparation, language courses, and other educational services.

Founded at the University of Virginia and named after the founder of the university, Jefferson Prep maintains a strong presence in the Charlottesville market and for University of Virginia alumni.[2]

Jefferson Prep also offers admissions consulting services, a service which is as popular as it is controversial.[3]

Since 2011, the company has been involved in efforts to aid in the reconstruction of Haiti after the 2011 earthquake, specifically in the context of building mobile and affordable micro-schools.[4]


Major acquisitions during the last 10 years include:[5]

  • 2010 – Kim's Tutoring Academy, a company specializing in offering educational services to Korean students
  • 2011 - A+ Test Prep, a test preparation company with private clients in the Northeastern United States
