Due to her middle name Suraya, Chin is often mistaken for a Muslim and has drawn critical comments on her attires while on screen. However, she has explained that her name, Suraya,  was given to her by her mother and that she was not a Muslim. As of 2015, she was also romantically linked to actor Pekin Ibrahim after appearing together in several events.
