HISTORY

Hobbymasters, INC. is one of the largest and oldest international hobby stores in the US. Forbes Magazine included Hobbymasters, INC. in the Forbes Travel Guides 2009, "Top 10 Amazing Toy Stores America." Established in 1975 in Red Bank, New Jersey, by David Placer, the store expanded through several locations until settling in their current downtown Red Bank location in 1979. In 1988 the owners turned the second floor warehouse space into additional retail area and added an elevator. The signature two-story mural on the front of the building complete with lighted trains and cars was added to the store between 1996-1997. In 2009 Hobbymasters gained more notoriety when their television commercial went viral as one of the top 10 worst retail tv commercials and was aired on E TV's Web Soup and G4TV's Attack of the Show.[citation needed]
