Hiallt, alternatively spelled Hialt or Healthene[1]) was a viking who settled in Normandy, France in the 10th century. He is associated with the village of Hialtus Villa (Hauteville) on the Cotentin Peninsula. By the 11th century Hauteville was held by his supposed descendant Tancred of Hauteville.[1][2] Tancred's sons led the Norman Invasion of southern Italy and they and their descendants ruled powerful states in the Mediterranean region.
