Handball baseball is a playground game invented in Ladera Ranch around 2001. It uses many baseball style rules, and is a way to play baseball without a bat. A rubber playground ball is thrown and must bounce once before the batter must hit the ball and run the bases. If the ball bounces twice, it is usually a ball. If the ball is fouled away, it is a strike. Most games limit the number of fouls to 5, where a strikeout usually occurs. Unlike in baseball, there can be as much as 20 people in the outfield or batting in which the only assigned position is pitcher. The game is usually played on a basketball court where the corners are the bases. In Ladera Ranch, World Series are hosted unofficially. Many people count how many homeruns they hit throughout the entire "season" or school year. Seasons last about 9 months.
