Gitane De Silva is Canada's Consul General to Chicago. A career Foreign Service Officer, she has specialised in Canada-US issues, serving at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) in such roles as Director, Canada-US Advocacy and Mission Liaison, and Director, US Transboundary Affairs, as well as Counsellor (Environment & Fisheries) at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC and in the Canada-US Secretariat at the Privy Council Office. Ms De Silva also served as Deputy Head of Agency at Status of Women Canada, and Director General, APEC Women and the Economy Summit at DFAIT. She holds a B.A. (International Relations) from the University of British Columbia.
