Successful story

From slums to national team

With a mother who died during childbirth, and an unemployed father, there was little evidence that Moses Kalanzi ever had to survive the first years of his life, but the 20-year-old Ugandan is alive and well.

He plays football in Blokhus, Denmark and has just been selected for the Ugandan youth national football team, but it was not exactly in the cards that 20-year-old Moses Kalanzi would get as bright a future. His mother died giving birth to him, and with older children to support, it was hard for Moses Kalanzi's unemployed father also to take care of a newborn baby.

Visit to Dubai

Managing director Fredrick Kitakule and Head coach Mathias Lule travelled to Dubai to establish new links with teams in the United Arab Emirates, which league achieved a professional status five years ago and has attracted international media attention by bringing football stars with lucrative salaries.

Coach Lule and director Kitakule were accompanied during their stay by the Dubai-based ex-football player Loubo Siois. The academy’s Founder and patron Kim Madsen was the person in charge of Loubo’s addition to the board of advisors of the sports academy, aiming to increase international recognition and competitiveness. The Greek football player Loubo Siois will act as Football Consultant and Ambassador of the Forever Sports Academy abroad.

In the football sector in the UAE there are also other famous and respectable personalities. Bruno Metsu recently replaced Diego Maradona as a coach of Al Wasl FC, Fabio Cannavaro is currently a technical consultant in Al Ahly Dubai and Walter Zenga is head coach of Al Nasr Dubai. Top scorer of the league was fellow African Asamoah Gyan.

The delegation from Forever Sports Academy managed to meet representatives from some of the teams in Dubai and to discuss the possibility of UAE teams participating in Uganda whenever friendly tournaments are organized. Another important topic was the option for Ugandan players to get a trial and play for the UAE league. In an interview with local radio station Loubo Siois commented “Uganda has great young talents that are able to compete in a professional league such as the UAE league, in the Forever Sports Academy we give the chance to talented teenagers to develop their skills”
