History FastMed’s first clinic was opened in Garner, NC in 2001 and was known as Wake Urgent Care. The clinic’s founders operated with a patient care focused model which was applied to every subsequent center. From 2001 to 2010 the network grew from 1 to 9 centers under the direction of Urgent Cares of America, the predecessor to FastMed Urgent Care. In 2010 Urgent Cares of America was purchased by the Comvest Group, a private equity firm based in West Palm Beach, Fla. In 2011, Urgent Cares of America purchased Urgent Care Express, a network of five centers operating in Arizona. In April of 2011 all 14 clinics were rebranded as the FastMed Urgent Care network.
