FYI Tampa Bay was created in 2009 by Ronnie Shaw. It was an idea of Ronnie's since the late 1990s when he first introduced FYI Tampa Bay as a small flyer of local events distributed throughout Pinellas County.

The new concept was to create a web based entertainment magazine, but instead of writing articles, he would provide video reviews of events, restaurants, night clubs and other places people enjoyed going in their free time. To make this venture a reality, he asked Dan Welsh (DJ Dan), a person he met while visiting Mugs N Jugs in Clearwater. Dan was doing a karaoke show at Mugs, and they started talking. After everything was said and done, Dan became the Face of FYI Tampa Bay, and Ronnie provided all of the technical and editing functions, web development and of course, held the camera.

FYI Tampa Bay has grown in to several areas over the past few years, including USTREAM Live Broadcasting of events and shows, and providing weekly reviews of the hospitality industry in the Tampa Bay area. They hold the hospitality industry accountable to the public by taking small handheld or hidden camera's in to establishments and recording what they see as any patron would see if they visited. Then, they provide a review and show the video of the establishment, and of course, allow the viewer to make their own decision.
