Kathy Ruttenberg (born December 2, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American painter and sculptor.
Kathy received her BFA with Honors from School of Visual Arts in 1981, majoring in animation and painting. She continued her education with graduate courses in Italy and Morocco. Focused primarily on painting, for years she also worked with a variety of other mediums. In 1980, her hand drawn animated film won an honorable mention in the Varna International Film Festival. Her paintings were well received and widely exhibited. After gaining interest in the ceramic medium, Ruttenberg enrolled in a class at Greenwich House Pottery in 1998.
In 2007, Ruttenberg was approached by Macy’s Herald Square to be the featured artist in their Annual Spring Flower Show, Over 50 of her sculptures adorning the windows of 34th Street and Seventh Avenue. The following year, she created a clay forest for the Caramoor Center for Music & The Arts as part of ALL FIRED UP!: A Celebration of Clay in Westchester.
In 2009, Ruttenberg was awarded honorable mention for her sculpture in the 5th World Ceramic Biennale Korea International Competition, and is now part of the museum collection of WOCEF. Ruttenberg was selected as guest of honor exhibitor in the 2010 Biennale Internationale de Vallauris, with 3 sculptures on display. She has permanent installations at both The Tisch Children’s Zoo in Central Park, New York and the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve, Brazil. Her work has been featured in a variety of major ceramics publications including: Neue Keramiks, Clay Times, Ceramic Monthly, American craft Magazine, Boston Globe, NY Daily News, Avenue, and Clay In Art.
