2015 mayor candidate of Salt Lake City Dave Robinson

Dave Robinson (born June 28, 1968) is an American entrepreneur and consultant and mayoral candidate for Salt Lake City mayoral election, 2015. Robinson is running to better protect open space and watersheds and to continue to strengthen ties between City Hall and the LGBT community.

Early life and career

Dave Robinson is 46 years old. He was born in Utah County, was raised LDS and comes from a family of 8 children. Dave served in the Missouri Independence Mission.

After mission service, Dave traveled to and lived in several states for a number of years, riding, training and running horse breeding farms.

In his late thirties, Dave came out as a gay man. He moved to Salt Lake City. For fitness and social, he swam with the QUAC swim team and also the Masters. Dave was asked to over-see the QUAC Ski and Swim event of which he did for a couple winters.

After Dave’s involvement with QUAC, he began helping and facilitating social house parties and gatherings around the city for gay men. Over the years, these house parties hosted hundreds of gay men and many friendships and relationships were forged and strengthened.

Accomplishments

Not long after Dave moved to Salt Lake City, he was asked by some private landowners in Big and Little Cottonwood canyons to help resolve the public and private land-use conflicts in the canyons. Dave’s work in the canyons has lead to working relationships and friendships with many, including private landowners, the US Forest Service, the State of Utah, Salt Lake County, backcountry users, the ski resorts and many others. The collection of acres Dave now represents is the largest block of private lands in Big and Little Cottonwood canyons.

In addition, Dave participated in Wasatch Canyons Tomorrow, served on Mayor Corroon’s canyon transportation committee, FCOZ mapping committee and currently serves on the Mountain Accord Committee.

Political Issues

Dave is a long standing community advocate for many political issues. He has demonstrated the ability to understand the perspectives of all parties, and forge elegant solutions to complex problems that move communities forward. His vision for Salt Lake City importantly includes pristine watershed and mountainous recreational opportunities as exemplified by his tireless advocacy of wise land stewardship, eliminating public and private conflict, a fair and transparent process for private landowners to leave the canyons, etc.

Dave owns a few small businesses in Salt Lake City.
