Vetha Anbu Selvam Daniel born on 7 August 1967, has been brought up in an organic environment, and started his career as an organic and bio-dynamic farmer. As an organic farmer he worked with development organization, for more than a decade, to enthuse and motivate groups of small farmers to adopt organic farming. In order to economically benefit the small farmers, he was involved in organizing farmer groups for domestic and export production. Since 2002, now Dr. Selvam Daniel is a part of ECOCERT, beginning as a field inspector and rising to position of Managing Director from 2006, managing the South Asian region. Presently, he is also pursuing research in ecological designing and bio-mimicry. He is also representing ICCOA as board of Director Since March 2011. ICCOA is a Bangalore based knowledge and learning center for all aspects of organic agriculture and agribusiness. As a Board member of ICCOA, he commits to work alongside ICCOA to strengthen its position as a global networking organization and a non-governmental interface organization. Mainly Dr. Selvam Daniel is envisioning his contribution to be in the form of working with the organic commodity chains and represent their needs and challenges to the certification sector and the accreditation bodies. In India, Ecocert operates from Aurangabad, for the south Asian countries. Ecocert India operations started in June 2002. The Founder, Late Dr. Alexander Daniel served the International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM) for more than ten years. His passion for the promotion of organic farming provided a social dimension to organic production. Ecocert India has witnessed remarkable growth since the beginning with its certification services in almost all the states and neighboring countries. Ecocert India has certified over three hundred thousand hectares of land for 284 of its clients constituting Processors, Exporters, Farmers’ Groups and Individual Farmers. The main objective of Ecocert is to promote the India Organic logo in the international markets and the Agmark India Organic logo in the Indian markets and give recognition to organic produce from India. Regular audits by its Head Office and Accreditation agencies help Ecocert sustain the faith of the clients and consumers.

Skill Development Program Program Coordinator

An industrial training and vocational education center was initiated and developed to cater to the skill needs of the rural unemployed youth. The center is at present having fifteen skill development courses. Special skill development programs were developed for destitute women for increasing their potential for self employment. Rural Housing Program Project Coordinator

The program was implemented to train women of low income groups in masonry skills and facilitating them to build houses for beneficiaries of the program desiring to build their houses. The beneficiaries of the program were also women of low income groups. Ninety houses were built for women of low income groups by women masons trained through the program. A revolving fund was also created by the interest free repayment of the loans by the beneficiaries. Period: Three years Sponsors: DESWOS e.v and BMZ., Germany

Environmental Education Program Training Coordinator

The members local self governing councils and women’s group leaders was trained to identify environmental issues in their respective villages. Forty local village self governing councils were trained and sixty women’s group leaders were trained in this program. Period: Two years Sponsor: MISEREOR, Germany.

Village Eco- Development Programs Program Coordinator

Coordinated the village level action programs for ecological development for two villages. Both the village eco-development programs were facilitated for these to be initiated and implemented by women’s groups. Period: Three years Sponsors: State Government and other local assistance.

Establishment of Environmental Councils Program Facilitator

Forty five environmental councils were established in villages facing severe ecological constraints through community mobilization. These environmental councils were established under the leadership of women. The women leaders who were responsible for these environmental councils were trained under the program to identify and manage the environmental issues of their respective villages. Period : Three years Sponsor : MISEREOR.

Development of Community Registers and Seed Registers Concept Development

A community register and a seed register was developed for the decision makers of the village community for identifying the quality of the physical and ecological environment of the village. The register is maintained by the environmental councils and forms an information base for environmental decision making for the community. Period : Six months Sponsor: MISEREOR, Germany

Community Supported Marketing Program for Organic Agricultural Products. Program Development

This program was developed to organize women consumer producer groups to raise the incentives for environmental restoration through consumer support. Period : Two years Sponsor: GTZ, Germany

Development of Community Based Organic Certification Program Program Development

This program has been developed to meet the needs of the small organic producers and local consumers for an cost effective and participative quality assurance mechanism. Period : Six months

Coordinating Training Programs on Organic Agriculture and Bio Diversity Training Co-ordinator

Training of 20 women farmers as field level extension workers for implementing community based organic agriculture and bio diversity programs Period : Two years

Project Evaluation of CRHP – Bhandardhara Phase II Evaluation

A community evaluation was done involving indigenous communities to evaluate the effectiveness and understand the future needs of the project. Period: Two months Sponsor: LWR, USA.
