Murphy arrived at the station in 1990 as a general assignment reporter and gradually transitioned to weather, first as a fill-in, then as the weekend morning weather man, and finally, the weekday morning and noon weather man in 2003. He also writes a weekly parenting blog for 6abc.com, WPVI's website.
Murphy has a B.A. in Communications from Temple University and a Certificate in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. He earned Seals of Approval from the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.
Murphy was born and raised in the suburban Philadelphia, but worked as a news reporter and anchor at WFMZ TV in Allentown in the mid 80s and later, at WNEP TV in Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and WMAR and WJZ TV in Baltimore, MD. Murphy was a child actor who appeared in national TV commercials for Tic Tac mints, Diet Coke, Pizza Hut, etc. He was also a bass player in a band, briefly.
