[[1]]If politics were not about if's and but's, the Rajmata of Jaipur Gayatri Devi could have been the first woman chief minister of Rajasthan. But there was an IRON MAN from MALPURA who broke her dream. This page is a mention about the man who served congress with 20 long years of hardwork as a Minister, The greatest politician of that time Shri.Damodar Lal Vyas. He outwitted Maharani Gayatri Devi (a very popular royal lady) in the 1960s, bringing to an end the glorious possibility of the last Maharani being the first Non-Congress Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Gayatri Devi lost the Vidhan Sabha election from Malpura against Damodar Lal Vyas by nearly 15,000 votes. Despite the fact that Sawai Man Singh had told her that Damodar Lal Vyas was a strong contender, Gayatri Devi decided to contest the election. Though THE IRON MAN could not even go for campaigning because of severe pneumonia but even then Maharani Gayatri Devi lost by a huge margin. He proved that leadership is an an art of getting someone else to do something you want done , he wants to do it, but followers do it only because they are influenced by you. The final test of a leader is that he leaves behind him ,in other men, the conviction and the will to carry on. The people did carry on with pride but along with it were the great DAMODAR LAL VYAS's enduring memories in their hearts.
