Nabil Ansara (born May 4, 1981) is an American musician, known for being a composer, producer, turntablist, and DJ. He is from Redford, Michigan and is better known by his stage name of DJ Sandman. He is also one of the key personnel for the company ALP Music, LLC in Plymouth, Michigan.

Early years

Ansara was born May 4th, 1981 in South Redford. He is first-generation Arab American. He graduated from Lee M. Thurston High School in Redford in the class of 2000.

Musical style and influences

His musical interests as a kid were Run-D.M.C., De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Public Enemy, The Roots, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Jimi Hendrix. He understands the 70s, funk, The Motown Sound, the 80s, and the golden era of rap and hip hop, and blends in all these influences. He says that he believes it is all about the people "having a good time". The beats that he makes are influenced by Middle-Eastern and world sounds, and incorporate hip-hop/rap rhythms, along with 70s music samples.

He knows rap artists Eminem, Kanye West, Russell Simmons, Rev Run, Sha Money XL, Tony Yayo, and Styles P of The L.O.X.. He has DJed at victory parties for the Detroit Tigers, the Eminem and Jay-Z The Home & Home Tour after party in Downtown Detroit, and a LaMarr Woodley NFL Charity Benefit.
