Christian Edward Walsh (born January 3, 2000) is an American blues guitar from O'Neill, Nebraska. Born in Norfolk, Nebraska, lived in Lincoln, Nebraska now lives in O'Neill, Nebraska. "This kid is a prodigy"! "He should be more known than he his".
Christian got his first guitar when he was 5 and he has never put it down. Since then he started playing talent shows to get more known. He has played many talent shows in his life. In 2010 he got 2nd place out of 20-40 people who were all older than him. He was greatly influenced by Eric Clapton, Joe Walsh, John Hiatt, Buddy Guy, BB King, John Mayer, Quinn Sullivan, and Tallan Latz.
In 2007 he played his first talent show and thats what got him most known in his area. That was what got him thinking "This is what i should do". In 2009 he went to Omaha, Nebraska to see Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood. That concert was the deal that made him get even more serious about his music. Before this concert he only practiced about a hour a day. Now he practices from 3-5 hours a day. He has started playing for homecoming at St. Mary's High School (O'Neill, Nebraska) in O'Neill, Nebraska. He plays guitar at St. Patrick's Church in O'Neill, Nebraska. One thing about music he goes by is one of Bob Marley's sayings "One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain"
In 2009 Walsh went to Omaha, Nebraska to see his idols Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood. The played his some of his favorite songs like Presence Of The Lord, Can't Find My Way Home, and Little Wing. After the show over 20,000 fans were cheering for about ten minutes so they would come plan an encore. They did an encore and the played the songs Voodoo Chile and Cocaine.
In 2012 Walsh started listening to The Beatles. The main person who struck him from The Beatles is George Harrison. When he heard his guitar in the song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" he thought I got to find out who this guy is. So he was up all night reading about The Beatles and then he finally found out who that guitar player was. He started listening to Harrison's different versions of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". He found a version of the song with Eric Clapton he was determined to learn that song and play it in front of St. Mary's and O'Neill Public School. That hasn't happened yet because it is harder for him to get booked at those two places. Around this time he heard Tom Petty on the radio playing 'Mary Jane's Last Dance" , and the song "Jack" from his solo album "Highway Companion". He was up all night trying to learn these songs. He learned "Jack" in less than 10 minutes.
In January of 2013 Walsh got his first mandolin. He caught on to it really quick. He learned Steve Earl's song "Copperhead Road" in less than a hour after he got it. A couple weeks later he joined a contest to play at Crossroads Guitar Festival 2013 at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York. In late January he played in a talent show at his school and did a medley of "Outside Women Blues, "Old Love", and "Sunshine of Your Love". He was recommended to play at a Music and Arts Festival in Atkinson, Nebraska. He hopes to be touring Nebraska by the middle of summer.
Christian Walsh & The Prodigies
Walsh recently got a new band together called Christian Walsh & The Prodigies. Right now there are only two guitar players, Walsh and his good friend Ehric Strope. They have a new album they are working on called "Pawn Shop Blues". This band plays blues, rock, and pop.
Crossroads 2013 Contest
Walsh recently entered a contest to play with Eric Clapton and many other famous musicians for Crossroads Guitar Festival 2013. He has uploaded cover songs to the website and has had many supporters in his time in the contest.
Walsh has played many different instruments in his life. But he only has one main instrument that he plays everyday. His guitars are one of the most important things to him in his life. He uses a Squier Stratocaster and a Martin DX1 most of the time.
Christian has a lot of musical background in his family. J.W. Everitt is one of his family members. J.W.'s father used to play on KBRX radio in O'Neill, Nebraska. One time Johnny Cash came through O'Neill and hears J.W.'s father playing on the radio. Cash called him up and asked if he wanted to go on tour with him. J.W.'s father turned it down.
