The Bordeaux Assassins are a professional rugby league team that compete in the French Rugby League Competition. They were established in 2006 as the Bordeaux Panthers for the French Elite One Championship. They have been very successful over their seasons in the Elite One and the FRLC. They won the FRLC minor premiership in 2010 and won the Grand Final in 2011 against the Toulouse Olympique. Their main rivals are the Toulouse Olympique, Marsielle Fire and the Lyon Phoenix. They are captained by the French National Team's captain, Oliver Elima, and coached by the French coach, Bobby Goulding.

Elite One Championship

The Bordeaux Panthers entered the 2006/07 season of the French Elite One Championship. They lost their first five games but then won all of their normal season games from there. They made the Grand Final but went down to Toulouse Olympique 22-16. The next season they had a better start, winning 14 of their first 15, but lost all of their normal season games from there. They just made the play-offs but got hammered by the Pia Donkeys 56-4. They released half of the Bordeaux Panthers players at the end of that season.

French Rugby League Competition

Bordeaux XIII changed their club mascot from a Panther to an Assassin after the 2007/08 Elite One Season, preparing for the FRLC. In the first ever season of the FRLC, Bordeaux played the first game against the Lyon Phoenix at Stade Chaban-Delmas in Bordeaux in front of a 27,000 person crowd. Bordeaux won their first game 16-10. The rest of the 2008 season was up and down for the Assassins, winning 8 games, losing 6 and drawing 1. They just made the finals in 8th position of 16, but were eliminated in the first week by rivals Toulouse Olympique. The grand final was later contested by the Nice Giants and the Brest Sharks, with Nice winning 22-10. 2009 was a better season for the Assassins, with them finishing 6th position on the ladder at the end of the year. They won 9 games and lost 6. They won the Quarter-Final against Toulouse against the odds, and went on to lose to an undefeated Paris XIII by 4 points. Paris went on to win the grand final, defeating the 2008 premiers, the Nice Giants, 16-2. 2010 saw a new look Bordeaux who had recently bought French, Monaco and Corsican representatives. They also bought Toulouse Olympique danger-man Matthew Kuschert, who had been awarded FRLC Player of the Year in 2009. Bordeaux finished the season in 1st spot on the ladder, with 14 wins and only 1 loss. They easily beat Nice Giants in their Quarter Final, but lost to Toulouse Olympique in their Semi-Final. Toulouse went on to win the Grand Final 32-14 against the Marsielle Fire. 2011 saw Bordeaux to have the best looking side in the competition, and were early favourites to win the premiership. They finished 3rd Spot on the ladder winning 12 games and losing 3. They won their quarter-final against the Lyon Phoenix and their Semi-Final against the Monaco Tigers, which meant they would contest the Grand Final with the Toulouse Olympique. This final was the first time that Stade de France had sold out a rugby league match. The final was a close match, Bordeaux snatching victory with an 80th minute try and conversion to departing winger Michael Gordon, set up by fullback Lachlan Coote and Five-Eighth Matthew Kuschert.
