RTI Activist Abhijeet Sinha beaten mercilessly by Builders & Sub Inspectors of Patna Police:

Patna 23.05.2012 Place : Maurya Path , Opposite Durga Market Rajiv Nagar Police Station.

An freelancer proposal writer & consultant- turned Right To Information (RTI) activist after filing RTI against a Govt Contractor Shakeel Khan for doing no work and showing utilisation of 51 lacs rupees govt funds last year and submitting fake extension from Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation to get more funds for the same project this year. When he dared to expose corruption in utilisation of financial assistance from govt and denied from working on such dubious project, he was initially threatened by Shakeel Khan through sms and political connections but his decision not to get engaged in any such practice and determination to expose dishonest contractors; victimised and humiliated him to the extent, when he was pulled out on gunpoint from his son’s “Anna Prashan” ceremonay held at his parental house based in Maurya Path, Ashokpuri Patna and mercilessly beaten by the contractor Shakeel Khan and his two body builder brothers Majid Khan & Yunus khan openly his own premises at 11.30 am on 23rd May 2012.

Whoever dared to save the activist got injured and after beating him those three criminals did not missed the chance to snatch gold Jewelleries being worn by activist’s wife and mother on the occasion of “Anna-Prashan” of activist’s son. While escaping from place of occurrence those aggressors intercepted by Rajeev Nagar Police and apprehended with help of localities. But after knowing the matter and getting financed by notorious contractors two young sub inspectors Rejeev & Rajesh from Rajiv Nagar Police station din not only assaulted complainant but started beating him mercilessly with (lathies) & rifle butts after locking him up in a room until his father paid Rs. 5 lacs and some odd amount to the contractors by cheque without any rhyme or reason.

Though the checks were given; those two sub inspectors of police kept the complainant locked for more than 4 hours keeping police manual and law & order aside to register any case or inform any senior police officer. Finally around 7 pm in the evening a known advocate Ranjan Kumar Sharma produced the copies of intimations, complaints and RTI filed by the activist when he was getting threats from Shakeel Khan before the Rajeev Nagar Police Station they released him with a threat not to go to hospital or pursue this matter with higher police officials and Human Rights Commission as consequence may not give him another chance to go back to his wife & son in life.

Complainant received multiple grievous injuries on his body and next day when presented before CJM Patna referred to PMCH for treatment where his medical examination was done and nearly every part of his body was crushed, swollen, injured or wounded. Complainant’s family prayed Higher Police Officials, Court and State Human Right Commission Bihar for actions. Honnable Court immediately forwarded the official case no 1294/12 for Investigation and necessary action to Rajeev Nagar PS and Criminal Case No 1406 regarding the incident of 23.03.12 to JM Class-I Ravi Ranjan. State Human Rights Commission Bihar also took cognizance in the matter gravely after looking at the seriousness of matter but Police Higher Officials are still mum and mute and has kept those marked officers involved in merciless beating and extortion in position at same police station; in power and service so that they can cover up their misdeed, fright all witness, clean all evidences against them and design a new story with accused to implicate and pressurize the complainant to withdraw or compromise before court comes in action and they get suspended.
