A September 2009 list of Taliban and al Qaeda leaders killed in Pakistan by missile strikes in 2008 and 2009, published by The Long War Journal, mentioned Abu Ubaydah Al Tunisi as "An al Qaeda military commander who fought against the Russians in Afghanistan"[2]
