The Goa Triathlon is a team and individual event at Bambolim Beach, close to the state capital Panaji, in Goa, India. The organisers say it is held in the "clean and clear waters at Goa's safest swimming beach, with biking and running in Goa's elite Dona Paula area, and a relaxed atmosphere..."
The Goa Triathlon has both individual and team events.
TEAM EVENT Participants need to get together a team of a swimmer, a biker and a runner. According to the website: "Each does his or her own thing. If they do it well enough, they walk away with the grand prize."
INDIVIDUAL EVENT "If you are made of steel," say the organisers, "do all three by your ownsome lonesome." The event is a proper Olympic-length triathlon, the website says, "the swimming is in the sea, not in some placid lake, and the biking and running route includes some trails and gradients".
BIKE 40 km: Run to the road 200m from the beach. Do four laps of a 10 km circuit – Bambolim Beach - Dona Paula - Miramar - Dona Paula.
RUN 10 km: One lap of the above circuit. Grand finish on the beach.
SAFETY The Goa Yachting Association (GYA) is to provide rescue boats, ‘Drishti’ will provide trained lifeguards and Jet Skis, and there will be close cover kayak support along the entire swimming course. There will be volunteers at every kilometre on the running / biking route. Rehydration / nutrition stations will be put up at every 2 km. Vehicles with bike stands will pick up those unable to continue. A doctor will be in attendance at the beach and a 108 Ambulance will be on call.
