On 28 May 2014 two teenage sisters were found hanging in a tree in Katra village of Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh of India which police confirmed of gang rape.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

The two victims hailed from a low-caste Dalit community and aged 14 and 15. They went missing from their village home when they went out for toilet previous evening.[7]

The family of victims alleged that few local musclemen raped and then killed the girls. The family also said the police had refused to come to their aid when they sought their help in tracing the missing girls.[8]

Reactions

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has recommended that the case be tried by a fast-track court. Former Chief Minister Mayawati has demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident and imposition of President's rule in the state.[8]

All India Democratic Women's Association condemned the incident and demanded speedy investigation of the crime as well as action against erring police personnel.[9]
