The 2012 Webster, New York shooting was a civilian attack in which firefighters responding to a house fire early Christmas Eve morning were ambushed.
The shooting occurred outside of a private residence in suburban Rochester, NY early Christmas Eve morning as firefighters were responding to a call of a house fire. Police said the shooter deliberately set his own home on fire to lure the firefighters there. Two were killed and 4 others suffered severe injuries. Nearby residents were evacuated by SWAT team following the shooting.
Police say William H Spengler, Jr. of Webster, NY was the perpetrator. Spengler, 62 previously spent 17 years in prison for murdering his 90 year old grandmother at the same location in 1980.
